Other Fun Things To Do in Oregon:

Oregon is truly a place of endless opportunities for fun. Not many states can boast about having a beautiful Pacific shoreline, and rugged snow-capped peaks dotting the landscape. If our bike trip made you crave more Oregon fun, here are some other things you can do after the trip to let your legs recuperate.

Go check out Portland! This beautiful city of 534,000 people is Oregon's largest city. About 2 million people live in Portland and the surrounding area. The downtown is lively and offers great dining and shopping opportunities. The city of Portland is also known as the "City of Roses" due to the many rose gardens that can be found here. After taking time to stop and smell the roses, you can smell the bouquet from the beer that you might find in one of Portland's numerous microbreweries. You'll be amazed at how many different beers you might find in this city.

Take a drive to the coast! Oregon has miles of beautiful and rugged coastline, and many quaint towns along the way can serve as dining or lodging breaks. From Astoria to Brookings-Harbour, you'll find Bed & Breakfasts, unique antique shops, and excellent seafood!

Spend some time in Newport, Oregon. This is a favorite destination for many visitors to the Oregon Coast. With about 10,000 people living here, this growing town is home to fishermen (and women), surfers, and artists. The city of Newport's official website boasts: "Newport continues to be a popular destination for visitors who enjoy strolling our unspoiled beaches; exploring our lighthouses; crabbing, fishing, or sailing on Yaquina Bay; or watching a dazzling sunset."

Mt. Hood

On this trip we travel through the Mt. Hood National Forest to the east of the giant peak itself. The singletrack in this forest is famous for a reason. Well-constructed ridge top trails provide you with surprise views of snowy Mt. Hood at regular intervals. Sometimes the peak seems so close you could reach out and touch the snow.

Cascade Lakes

Swooping and zooming singletrack, lower elevations (rarely above 7,000 feet), lakes at each camp, and relatively small climbs for a singletrack trip make this a great choice. The trails are tunnel-like paths through the heavily forested terrain of hemlock and pines. When we do pop out there are lakes to greet us at our lunch spots, at camp, and when you least expect it. Swimming is always an option. The water is refreshing to say the least.
