Mt. Hood Fun Facts:

Mount Hood is a dormant stratovolcano in northern Oregon and is about 50 miles to the east of Portland. It is the highest point in the state of Oregon.
A stratovolcano is a large, steep-sided, symmetrical cone built of alternating layers (strata) of lava, ash, cinders, blocks, and bombs. Also called composite volcano, these stratovolcanoes form some of Earth's greatest mountains rising as much as 8,000 feet above their bases
Mt. Hood is the fourth highest mountain in the Cascade Range.
The elevation is 11,249 feet at it's highest point. Don't worry, though - our trip will only get up to about 6,000 feet.
The last eruption is believed to have happened in the 1790's, but the exact date is not known.
The first known ascent of Mt. Hood was in 1845 by Sam Barlow his climbing party.
